I joined Rubaroo in the month of July as a Junior Project Officer. My prior experience was mostly limited to psychometric testing in the hospital settings. I was keen on working in diverse settings and varied age groups. I found this opportunity with Rubaroo. The field of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) was not familiar to me. Through training and guidance from my bosses and colleagues I got the chance to broaden my knowledge of Child Sexual Abuse as well as sex and sexuality.
I remember my 1st conduction at a school in Dharavi where I did a parents session. I had fear of public speaking, so it was a huge challenge for me. I had this truckload of self doubt while preparing for the session. I successfully conducted the session, the experience has helped in my personal development and in some way boosted my self esteem. Since July I have been conducting sessions across the schools, NGOs and other organizations in Mumbai as well as outstation. The diversity of the settings- be it working with rural, urban, community children and people, gave me valuable experience which has truly enhanced and developed my skills.
It was a learning experience when it came to counselling children where “play” has a tremendous role and it is vastly different than counselling an adult. My work gives me immense joy and satisfaction, and working with small but lovely team of people is the cherry on the top. With passing days and with every My Body My Safety (MBMS) conduction, I am motivated to work for the cause of Child Sexual Abuse.
